Part two of my massive sweet and lovely update is design work! I have some pre-made blogger templates available, as well as custom work like blog overhauls, blog headers, custom illustrations and custom paper dolls! I'll only be working on a limited number of projects at once so I have a low quantity in stock on each custom design item.

I stopped doing custom work about a year ago and have had some of emails about it since then, so I hope some of you guys are still out there and interested lol ;) I'm really excited about the custom paper dolls! I think they'd be perfect for marketing a little boutique or even maybe for a super customized bridesmaid invitation?

I have four pre-made blogger templates in the shop ready to go and I'm hoping to be adding more constantly! My idea is to make designs that look like you had custom work done, even though it's actually a template. I feel like so many prefab templates seem to lack little details that make a blog look special and I want to change that :)

Please note: coupons are not eligible on custom design work or blog templates.

I've been an active etsy seller since May 2009, so this is my 4th holiday season on etsy. And it might be my last. I'm still going to sell on etsy, but I think next year I might close my shop on Black Friday and re-open on January 1st. Let me explain why.

My family is pretty gung-ho about Christmas. We put the tree up super early (usually after Halloween) and start playing our seasonal albums even earlier. My mom bakes dozens and dozens of cookies, and in December we watch countless classic movies about goodwill towards men, and everything else that goes with the fabled Christmas spirit. But here's the thing -- after 4 years of etsy Christmases I'm starting to feel like that spirit just doesn't exist in the world. I'm starting to feel a lot colder about my fellow man, and I'm losing my faith that most people are nice and kind and good.

Here's something to remember if you're a buyer on etsy (or ebay, for that matter, where my dad is a top seller and is having similar feelings of disillusionment) You are dealing with a human being. Usually just one single human being on the other side of the computer. Not a big huge company or a customer service representative -- just one person who's handling the emails, the shipping, the production, everything. At this time of year they're probably having a harder time handling it unless they're lucky to have enough money to hire seasonal help or friends with enough time to lend a hand. They're probably feeling a little stressed out right now. So now, more than any other time of the year, would be a good time to be polite.

If you need an order rushed for Christmas, how about "If possible, could you please rush this? Thanks so much!" Instead of "Need for Christmas! Rush my order!" I'd like to feel like one of Santa's elves, not a member of a crafting chain gang. But that's really just a small pet peeve to me. What REALLY bothers me is how impatient, demanding and rude people are when they're following up about the status of their shipment. Quite frankly the vast majority of customers are patient and polite -- out of the 700+ orders I've received in the last month, only a handful were rude, but they were enough to make me want to chuck it all next year.

First of all, I find it absurd that so many people are "concerned this isn't going to make it for Christmas" when it hasn't arrived by December 12th. Did somebody move Christmas and not tell me? Last I heard it was the 25th, and as of today there are still seven whole days when the mail is being delivered. This morning somebody opened a dispute against me on etsy (sidenote: the fact that etsy has made it easier to open disputes without contacting the seller first really gets my goat) because their order hasn't arrived yet and now they don't think it will make it for Christmas. The tracking shows that it will be out for delivery tomorrow. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's over a week before Christmas.

What upsets me more than my frustration over how early people seem to be getting frantic over delivery dates is how cruel they are to me. FYI -- I'm a human being. This is Christmas for me, too, you know.. or at least it used to be. If USPS is taking five days to deliver a first class package, that's not actually my fault, but you'd never know it by the way some people treat me. It's a fact that USPS can take a little longer during the holiday rush because of the sheer volume of mail they're dealing with, and this year in particular because they've cut back so much. Lucky for them, though, any complaints about slow, lost or missing packages are directed at people like me, not them.

I've been feeling this way for a while now, but it sort of reached a crest this weekend. After hearing about the terrible events in Connecticut, I personally feel a lot less upset about trivial things. If you have your family and your health right now, you should be so incredibly thankful. To me Christmas is always more about being with the people you love than gifts, but this year even more so. The fact that anyone right now could be consumed with outrage over something so inconsequential as a gift that hasn't arrived before December 15th, that just breaks my heart. Be happy that you still have the person for whom the gift was intended.

And here's a thought: if your present doesn't arrive before Christmas, if the worst possible scenario happens and you are *gasp* sans-present come Christmas morning, make a little card that says "Christmas isn't over yet! There's still one more present, but it won't be under the tree for a few more days!" or something like that. So what if you have to give a present a few days after Christmas? As we know all too well right now, it could be much worse.

I know this is a really strange thing for me to be posting here -- and generally these sort of thoughts are reserved for my family and very close friends -- but I felt like it needed to be said. If just one person reads this and it makes them think twice before sending off an irate message to another etsy seller, it's worth it.

I am so, so thankful to have a successful small business (knock on wood!) but O.M.G. am I worn out from the Christmas rush! My brother hasn't helped me as much this year as he used to, and I'm not quite comfortable hiring someone to help me pack orders in my bedroom lol. So I've been making, printing, packing, shipping and emailing from morning until the wee small hours. I actually feel guilty going to sleep each night because there's so much left to be done. And we still haven't even baked cookies or written out Christmas cards yet. As grateful as I am, I'm really looking forward to putting my shop on vacation next week and enjoying some calm days with my family :)

For the last year or two I've been obsessively collecting vintage bedding on etsy. Usually pillowcases and fat quarters (seriously, search for "vintage fat quarter sheet" on etsy and prepare to get lost in the awesomeness) so I treasure those little snippets of mid-century design like you wouldn't believe. I'm so hesitant to use them since they're soon going to be in short supply. I hate the idea of these gorgeous colors and patterns disappearing over time, which they're bound to do as they're used up for craft projects and quilts and (in my case) pillows. And that's where I got this idea -- digital patterns inspired by vintage bedding.

I poured over my collection of swatches and picked some of my absolute favorites to base my first batch of patterns on. About 200 hours later (or at least it seems that way) Presto! A collection of 10 digital designs for my first vintage bedding paper pack! Hooray! The kit is available in my Kitschy Digitals shop here! It includes all of the designs as 12" x 12" papers at 300dpi.

I also uploaded the designs to my society6 store, so they're available as laptop covers, pillows, iphone cases, etc. I especially love how they look on the iphone cases!! These three are my personal favorites!

I've been drawing and drawing and drawing and drawing, and I am FINALLY... almost finished. I have just one illustration left, and then my 2013 calendar will be complete :) I thought I'd share some sneak peeks first, mainly because I'm just so happy with how it's coming along so far!

These are definitely my favorite flapper doodle drawings. I haven't been this smitten with my own work in a long, long time. It's a nice feeling :) I'll be listing all of these as prints in my shop over the weekend, and if you like what you see, the calendar is available for pre-order here!

ps. I got the first shot by duct-taping my iphone to my ceiling and using a self-timer. I put a piece of paper between my phone and the duct-tape so it wouldn't damage it, and it worked great! Also, my sweater and shorts are both from asos. Just in case anyone was wondering :)

It's that time of the year again -- 2013 calendar time. I've been hard at work (I say "work" but really this is my absolute favorite part of my job!) coming up with the 12 new illustrations for my new flapper doodle calendar. So far I have two complete drawings, one half-finished drawing and 9 incredibly rough sketches. And I've been working on it non-stop for days, so I guess at this rate I should be finished by, say, sometime in 2014?! ;p Maybe I'll share a sneak peek if anyone is interested?

Now to completely change the subject... these shoes. THESE SHOES. I went vintage shopping with my cousin a couple weeks ago, and she found these incredible pastel pink beauties. They were marked a size 8, and I'm a size 7, but I tried them on anyway... and they fit!! And they were only $10! I need to change the laces (I think the original ones were lost along the way and somebody replaced them with sneaker laces) but otherwise they're in amazing condition and just so so perfect! Look at those pretty little cutouts! *dies*

I have so much to do today, I think I almost wept when I looked at the clock and saw it was time to get up and begin my day. My to-do list seems to be a mile long, but I'm hoping to check off as much as I possibly can by midnight. May turned out to be one of the worst months ever for my family (you probably wouldn't even believe me if I listed everything that happened to us. When our sink broke last week I said "it's LITERALLY everything and the kitchen sink!!") so I just spent so much time away from my computer that things got really, really backed up. Deadlines are swiftly approaching so it's super duper crunch time!

Totally completely off topic, but how about Mad Men on Sunday?! I won't say any spoilers but my goodness that was one of the best so far this season! I can't believe there are only a couple episodes left... I feel like after waiting so long for this new season we should have gotten a few extra to make up for the wait. ;p
