I'm FINALLY feeling better so I thought I'd stop by and wish everyone a belated Merry Christmas :) We had to postpone some of our holiday festivities since I was so sick, I didn't get to finish my present shopping and I had to miss my Aunt Annie's 102nd birthday party (that was crushing!) but we still had a nice Christmas. I lost my voice so I ended up using a text-to-voice app on my phone and I think that sufficiently lifted everyone's spirits. Just hearing the app try to pronounce 'Arrietty' produced plenty of holiday cheer ;)

Christmas isn't over for me just yet though. I finally just mailed my cards yesterday (you can see them here!) and since I spent so much of December either working or deliriously sick I'm giving myself permission to keep my decorations up through mid-January. I want to enjoy these trees and ornaments, darn it! And I'm going to bake cookies and eat hundreds of them while everyone else is starting their weight loss new years resolutions. It's going to be great.

In October instagram sent me an email letting me know that they had selected me as a suggested user, and all of a sudden my follower count shot up from 9,000 to 31,000 practically overnight. I was really excited and flattered at first, but then I realized that most of the new followers were trolls -- serious trolls. I started getting bombarded with really rude comments and even though I got my brother to moderate them and block people for me so that I wouldn't have to look, I lost all interest in instagram. I dreaded logging in at all, even to look at my friends' photos. I e-mailed instagram to ask if they could reset my follower count back to what it was in October but they either couldn't or wouldn't.

So I decided to start a new private account. I've been using this one (scathinglybrilliant) for a little over a month and I love the peace of mind. I can log in now and talk to my friends, read my comments and enjoy my favorite app again. I hate that I am losing the 9,000 legitimate followers that I had built up over the last few years but I just couldn't see any other way of using instagram without being harassed. And just a heads up -- if you ever get featured by instagram they do give you the option of opting out. I wish so badly that I did at the time, but I had no idea how much trouble it would cause until it was too late.

Anyway, if you'd like to follow my new account it's scathinglybrilliant. I've only been approving public accounts right now but if you have a private one and you're a nice person just leave a comment here letting me know what your username is before you send your follow request and I'll approve it :)

On Saturday night I brought over the cats and we spent our first night in our new home! It went so smoothly. Arrietty and Hubble did their fair share of investigating every nook and cranny before cuddling up in bed with me. It was so perfect and sweet!  My room is still a work in progress (basically the only room that's completely finished right now is the kitchen, which I'll share soon!) but it's finished *enough* that it feels cozy and home-like. I get the best light in the morning, my room was practically glowing when I woke up. It was gorgeous!

Tomorrow is my birthday (it really snuck up on me this year!) so I'll have my annual birthday giveaway posted here in the morning! I included lots of fun stuff so make sure to check back tomorrow and enter :D

My brother's cell phone broke last week so I gave him mine and upgraded to the iphone 5C. I forgot that it's a completely different size than my old one (I had a 4S) so in addition to needing a new case (I'm going to miss my perfect pink hello kitty one so much!) it doesn't fit in my tripod iphone attachment anymore. For these photos I put my self-timer on and then taped my cell phone to my computer screen with blue painter's tape so it would stay upright. Neccesity is the mother of invention right? ;p

Speaking of blue painter's tape, I got all of my paint and painting supplies yesterday! I get the apartment tomorrow night (!!!!) so I'll probably start painting on Wednesday. I'm so excited about this part! The moving-all-my-stuff and finding-furniture parts are a little more daunting. I did start cleaning out my closet, though, and I have a big giant heap of things for a shop my closet update later this week! I figured I might as well clear out some things I don't wear instead of mindlessly moving everything into the new place :)

I've mentioned this before, but I still can't get over this sweet furry friendship. Hubble and Arrietty are such cute little pals! They're almost always hanging out together, playing, or napping near each other (still not cuddling but I'm hoping that's on the horizon.)

I know what you're thinking -- "how did she bring her bedroom and her cat to Florida?!" but actually I took this picture on Sunday, before we left. Yesterday we set out for the airport around 4:30am and then went straight to Disney World when we arrived at our hotel. I was going to take a shower but I accidentally packed all my shower accoutrements in my checked baggage which hadn't showed up in my room yet. So I just went to the Magic Kingdom a tired, sloppy, slightly dirty mess. I still had an absolute blast but I'm not sharing any photos just yet ;)

Last night we went to the Disney World halloween party and it was so much fun! I dressed up like a cat (it was actually a horrible last minute costume but of course my default would be cat.) I had wanted to dress as Mary Poppins but I thought guests weren't allowed to have Disney character costumes (so you don't get confused with the paid actors) but it turned out like 50% of the women there were in full princess regalia. Darn it! Well, at least I know for next time.

As usual for me, so far I'm just obsessed with the food. The quinoa salad at Be Our Guest was phenomenal (definitely trying to recreate it at home when I get back) and I was reunited with my beloved Dole Whip in Adventureland. *sigh* Today we're off to Epcot where tons of scrumptious International cuisine awaits me. Hooray!

Oh, and I did upgrade to an annual pass! Thanks for the advice in my last post!! :)

Six months ago today, I brought home this little fluffy bundle! I am SO glad that I adopted her. After I lost Hypatia my dad quickly started floating the idea of getting another cat, but I wasn't 100% sold on it until I saw this cutie pie on petfinder. She was about 1.5 hours away, but we called and booked an appointment to see her immediately. She just looked so tiny and lonely.

I took this picture the day that I met her. She was incredibly energetic in her cage but calmed down for a few seconds while I snapped some pictures. My dad held her while we talked to one of the shelter staff about her history, and she climbed up his coat and got cozy on his shoulder! When we left she was fast asleep in her litter box. What a character!

Chloe and Hubble were both due for their rabies vaccinations in March so we had to schedule those before we could bring her home. They told us our adoption wouldn't be final until our vet confirmed the appointment. It was a Sunday and we couldn't call until the morning, so we stayed with Arrietty until the shelter closed, to make sure nobody else could adopt her.

We actually had a bit of an adjustment period before we got used to each other. She had a really hard time adjusting to sleeping at night for some reason. I'd play with her all day long, hoping she'd be worn out by bedtime, but as soon as I would get tucked in she'd start darting around the room in a frisky frenzy. I have no idea what happened, but after about a month or so she just magically calmed down and started sleeping through the night with me. And we've been buddies ever since!

Speaking of buddies, these two get along like nobody's business. I am so happy to have cats that like to play!! All of my other cats have barely tolerated each other, but Hubble and Arrietty are perfect little playmates. They like to wrestle and chase each other around the house, then calm down and groom each other. It's SO darn cute.

Even though I adopted Arrietty to be my cat, you can never really tell who they're going to latch onto. I adopted Hubble but he and my mom are attached at the hip now. Chloe doesn't belong to anyone, although my brother likes to pretend that he's her favorite (he's not.) They have their own personalities that don't come out until they're already a part of the family -- you can't decide which human is going to be the favorite, they do!

Luckily, Arrietty has hitched her wagon to yours truly. She waits for me outside the bathroom, sleeps with me at night and when we're going up or downstairs she actually tries to keep pace with me. If I stop for a second on the middle of the stairs she waits until we're ready to keep going. It's adorable! And if you can't already tell from the photos I take of her, she seems to ALWAYS be on my bed. Occasionally she'll venture under the kitchen table, but my bed is definitely home base. I think she just likes all the pillows ;)

She's really goofy and playful. It's so fun to watch her play with her short, fat little legs and huge puffy tail! She's also pretty smart (you know, for a cat!) Chloe does not like to play, and Arrietty knows it. She's well aware that Hubble is the go-to guy when she wants to have fun, and pretty much leaves Chloe alone. Hubble isn't quite as quick and usually experiences at least 5 failed attempts at playtime with Chloe each day.

She's a little handful of cat and our vet said she's probably full grown now so the only growing she'll be doing is width-wise ;) I know it's definitely not for everyone, but adopting a cat so soon after losing one was definitely the right choice for me. Every day I am so grateful to Arrietty for cheering me up so much and making my life happy again. She is such an adorable sweetie pie and I am so lucky to have her!

Happy 6 Months, Arrietty! :)
