I thought it would be fun to do random posts once in a while with what I'm doing right now. I tend to write my posts in advance and schedule them, or write about things that I did yesterday/last week/last month. I love the idea of a blog as a record of your life to look back on later (sort of like a public, less embarrassing version of a diary) so it would be nice to have more tidbits of daily life in here :)

I'm currently:

+ listening to Buddy Holly
+ wearing pie-print pajamas (from Target)
+ taking photos for my mom's etsy shop
+ packing orders for my etsy shop
+ waiting for my dad to get back from the grocery store (pumpkin pie!)
+ drinking hot chocolate in a Tigger mug
+ getting ready to sew more throw pillows for my bed
+ preparing a DIY project for this week (it involves cats.)
+ enjoying my weekend!

What are you up to? :)

I've been drawing and drawing and drawing and drawing, and I am FINALLY... almost finished. I have just one illustration left, and then my 2013 calendar will be complete :) I thought I'd share some sneak peeks first, mainly because I'm just so happy with how it's coming along so far!

These are definitely my favorite flapper doodle drawings. I haven't been this smitten with my own work in a long, long time. It's a nice feeling :) I'll be listing all of these as prints in my shop over the weekend, and if you like what you see, the calendar is available for pre-order here!

ps. I got the first shot by duct-taping my iphone to my ceiling and using a self-timer. I put a piece of paper between my phone and the duct-tape so it wouldn't damage it, and it worked great! Also, my sweater and shorts are both from asos. Just in case anyone was wondering :)

Sorry for the terrible mirror photo! We've been having a really dreary, overcast week so when the sun decided to show itself for a few minutes I hurried and took a quick picture of my new hair color!

In real life I think it's a little bit more muted than it looks here (or maybe that's just because I've been seeing it in rainy-day-lighting all week) but I really do like it! I used Clairol Light Red-Neutral Blonde (8RN) mixed with 20vol developer for the base color. And then the next day I used Special Effects Cupcake Pink mixed with a smidgen of Manic Panic Wildfire Red, and a decent amount of conditioner (to dilute the color) and left that on for a few hours. So it's like a peachy, muted pink instead of being really bright.

If I can maintain this color I think it will be perfect. With a less saturated shade of pink, I feel like I'll attract less attention in public (which is a huge plus for a wallflower like me) and I won't feel compelled to match my outfits to my hair, which I always do when my hair is bright pink. But my hair will still be PINK! I think it's a happy medium :)

This is the last picture I'm posting with my regular pink hair. I had to touch up my roots and thought I'd try something a little different by using a darker shade of blonde as my base, so the pink would be toned down. The blonde came out A LOT darker than I anticipated so it's looking a little odd, but I think you can still *kind of* see that it's pink. Anyway, I'll post photos later in the week.

My mom got this vest on her honeymoon in Paris in 1976, and it's one of my most treasured possessions. Unfortunately she's one of those people who empties their closet constantly and this seems to be one of the only vintage pieces she kept. It's a shame too because she had killer style when she was young! I always kid my dad about it, because in photos from the 70's he's bedecked in bell bottoms, half-open floral print shirts with huge collars and a gold chain while my mom has on something classic and timeless. My brother and I have officially ruled that he's never allowed to ever judge any of our fashion decisions, or else we'll whip out the incriminating 70's pictures ;D

I'm not even exaggerating. It's literally my favorite outfit I've ever worn in my entire life.

I fell in love with the dress as soon as I saw it (I mean, it's covered in clouds! hello!) and then the idea sprung to life: "I shall dress up as a sunny day!" GENIUS!! (at least I think so, although I'm sure most people would classify the idea in the "kooky" category) Sooo the green shoes are the grass, my dress and cardigan are the sky, and my hat is the sun! And I added a little flower brooch for good measure (let's just pretend that it isn't floating up in the clouds..)

I have oodles and oodles and oodles of things on my to-do-list today, so naturally I was procrastinating and surfing the web (do people actually say surfing the web anymore?) Somehow I ended up on the BUST magazine site, and they had a post about this new web series that Amy Poehler is doing. She takes questions from teenagers and answers them in little 2-3 minute segments on youtube.

The first one I watched was about arguing with your sister (my brother is my only sibling, but it was still incredibly relevant) and I eventually worked my way to this one, which is about stress. Particularly stress caused by having a lot to do, and feeling overwhelmed about doing it. I know that technically her advice is about homework and it's directed at girls 10+ years younger than me, but it was still incredibly helpful. And I thought if anyone else out there is having a tough time working through their to-do-list this weekend, it might give you a little boost, too! :)

ps. Can I just add that Amy Poehler is beyond awesome? Seriously.
